Frequently Asked Questions

New to pole FAQs

  • The most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident - keep in mind pole is exercise, so wear something you can move in!

We do use skin contact to give us grip on the pole, specifically our thighs, shins, back of the knees and hands, here are our suggestions:

Bottoms: Booty or speedo shorts are the best from a grip perspective, but we know not everyone is confident to have their legs out, so you can also wear grippy tights specifically for pole, or loose pants you can pull up when you need.

Top: Support and comfort are key here, a lot of students just wear a sports bra or a comfy t-shirt.

Shoes: We do most of our pole barefooted, but some people prefer socks. We recommend just coming in something you can easily take off when you get to the studio.

Some of our classes have some different specifications, so while the above works for all our classes, here are some other options:

Fitness classes: You may be more comfortable in gym pants rather than booty shorts or pole bottoms, and socks make it easier to slide in stretch classes.

Dance Classes: For contemporary you might prefer something a little more flowy, whereas for classes such as sensual flow, some students like to bare more in sexy outfits like Captivating Kinis.

Knee pads are recommended for all dance classes unless specified otherwise. For contemporary socks are recommended, for other dance classes heels are optional.

  • We recommend bringing water to keep yourself hydrated, and you’re welcome to bring some snacks to keep your energy up if you need.

You’re welcome to bring a small towel to wipe yourself down or use on the floor, but it’s not essential.

Apart from that, some students like to use pole grip, which you are welcome to bring if you have some, we just ask if you use Tite grip, you apply it before you come to class.

We also have grip available for purchase at the studio.

  • We believe pole is for everybody and every body. No matter your gender, fitness level, goals or reasons, pole is for you.

Pole is a full body workout and our beginner classes and casual fitness and dance classes are suitable for any fitness level or skill level.

  • Any - come as you are! Our trial classes are a gentle introduction to pole, or serve as a assessment class to see where you fit into our curriculum if you’ve done pole before.

Our beginner courses are designed to suit anyone fresh to pole or fitness, so don’t stress about where you’re at!

  • The easiest way to book a trial class is through our ‘Book your Trial’ page on our website.

The other option is email us at hello@tspoleandfitness.com.au and we can book it for you!

  • No - our trial classes are available for anyone new to our studio, whether you’re new to pole or just new to T’s Pole and Fitness. You can book into a free trial class here.

  • Our trial classes are designed to suit everyone from very beginners through to experienced pole dancers.

In our trial sessions we’ll run you through a basic warm up, followed by a conversation of your pole experience and fitness abilities. Don’t stress if you’re completely new, we’ll take you through some beginner-friendly spins, climbs and skills so you can have a taste of what pole is about. If you have some experience in pole we will use this session as an opportunity to evaluate you to see what Pole Level will suit you best.

  • Absolutely! Our studio offers a wide range of classes, some of them dance orientated but the rest fitness and curriculum based.

In our curriculum classes you’ll learn new techniques and skills, and a few combos so you know how to put your newly learned skills together.

While we have casual and levelled dance classes available, you can select entirely levelled pole classes and casual fitness classes if you prefer.

  • You certainly can! We offer both levelled and casual dance classes, so you can choose which you prefer!

Our casual dance classes are open to any level unless specified otherwise. In these classes you’ll learn a part of choreography every 2-3 weeks, so they’re perfect to jump into at any point and are beginner friendly as they don’t include pole tricks.

Our levelled routine classes spend the entire 10 week term learning a routine using the tricks and skills learnt in the equivalent pole level class. We strongly recommend committing to attending this class for the entire term as you’ll learn a full routine with more complex choreography.

  • Pole is a full body workout, so for beginners we recommend not going too crazy with how many classes you do, as you’ll end up feeling quite sore!

Doing just your curriculum class and using your practice sessions will build your strength up. If you want to do more classes we’d recommend trying some of our casual dance and fitness classes.

  • At T’s Pole and Fitness we truly do believe pole is for everyone.

As long as you’re over 18 and you’ve filled out all required documentation before your first class you’re welcome to join us!

  • Our amazing head trainer Tiarna has designed our structured curriculum to support your progress and development throughout your pole journey, from first timers through to elite. Our levels are:

    Beginner
    Pole Level 1 - Pole Level 8
    Elite

Each level has specific core skills and tricks you’ll learn over the course of the term, as well as supporting conditioning exercises to keep you strong and prepared for the difficulty increasing.

The core skills you learn become the prerequisites for progressing into the next level, and this is assessed by your instructor in your last week of term.

Once you’ve finished a term of a level, you get a certificate of completion as a congratulations!

  • Here at T’s Pole and Fitness we prioritise flexibility, which means you aren’t locked into having to do the same classes every week - you can pick and choose what you want to do.

If you’re doing a pole level or routine class, we do recommend trying to attend at least one of your levelled classes and routine classes every week so you don’t miss any content.

  • If a class you want to attend is full we definitely recommend jumping onto the waitlist! If someone cancels we start contacting people on the waitlist to check if they want the available spot.

We try to give you as much notice as possible, but we do require an answer within 30 minutes before we offer the spot to the next person on the waitlist.

Class FAQs

  • Causal Classes are classes that you can join in at any point in the term and don’t follow a specific curriculum.

We have both casual fitness and dance classes available, so you can pick and choose whichever you want to do.

Our casual fitness classes include a few different stretch classes and a vertical barre class, and our casual dance classes include contemporary, sensual flow, sexy flow, throwback Friday and intermediate choreography. These classes spend 2-3 weeks learning a snippet of choreography.

  • Definitely not, our stretch classes are for everyone to learn how to stretch safely, and are suitable for any ability level.

Consistency is key with stretching, and progress can feel slow, but over time you’ll definitely notice an improvement!

  • Not at all, our casual dance classes are all open level, unless specified otherwise. That means that they’re suitable for any skill level - both in relation to pole and dancing. If you’re brand new to pole and dancing you can still jump into a casual dance class.

  • Our levelled pole classes follow our structured curriculum and are focused on learning tricks and core skills.

Our levelled pole classes are divided up into different levels based on the core tricks and skills you will learn. To progress to the next level you must be able to do all of the core tricks and skills learnt in the previous level.

  • Our levelled routine classes are designed to put the tricks and skills you’ve learnt in your pole level class to practice!

You will spend the full 10 week term learning a full routine, including combos of tricks appropriate for your pole level.

You can do any levelled routine class equivalent or below your current pole level. eg. If you’re in level 3 pole, you can do Routine 1, 2 or 3.

  • For some pole levels, we design the routines to be suitable for two levels eg. Routine 2/3.

This means it includes combinations that have variation options so they can be skilled up or down for either level 2 or level 3.

For levelled pole classes (eg. 6+) we offer progressions appropriate for your skill level.

  • As our levelled pole classes follow a structured curriculum, at the end of the term your instructor will assess your ability to complete all prerequisites to ensure you can progress to the next level.

Just remember progressing quickly isn’t the goal! Ensuring you are confident in your core skills means you can progress safely and a good foundation sets you up for success. Sometimes you may repeat a level a few times, or sometimes you may not feel ready to move into the next level, and that’s totally fine!

  • In terms of our levelled pole classes, you need to be evaluated into a specific level.

You can do classes under your evaluated level, but not above.

  • If you’re new to our studio we recommend starting with a free trial class.

If you have experience doing pole we use this session as an opportunity to evaluate you and assess which pole level will be the best for you.

  • Sometimes with pole progression isn’t always linear, and everyone is built differently. Some levels you’ll feel like everything clicks on the first go and you’re strong enough to do all the tricks, whereas other levels you may find some skills really challenging or scary, and you may take a couple of terms to build up the confidence and strength to progress.

Your progression and pole journey is entirely a personal experience, and everyone is different. It’s not a race!

  • Coming back to pole after some time off can feel really challenging, regardless if it’s off an injury or just a long holiday.

If you’re new to the studio, coming along to a trial and having an instructor assess which level is best for you is the best way to go. If you’re already a member of our studio and you’re coming back from some time off, chat to our amazing team and we can help find the best option for you - sometimes you can go back into the same level and we’ll help build your strength back up with a few edits, and sometimes going down a level or two will feel the best.
